Fractional product management
Fractional Product Manager
When founders are handling every product decision and developers are waiting for clarity, another planning document is only a starting point. I work with your team on an ongoing basis to own the agreed product remit, keep the roadmap current and turn priorities into work the team can deliver.
Embedded, part-time product management for startups, SMEs and agencies. Based in India, supporting remote teams through an agreed capacity, communication rhythm and decision process.

Give your product consistent ownership.
A CLEAR ENGAGEMENT
Bring a decision. Find a useful next step.
Choose fractional support when the need repeats across planning, research and delivery. It suits teams that want a product owner in the working rhythm while retaining the flexibility of an agreed part-time engagement.
- Founders who need someone to drive day-to-day product decisions while they focus on the wider business.
- Startups with developers in place but an unclear backlog, changing priorities or limited customer learning.
- SMEs developing a portal, CRM or internal application that needs a continuing connection to business users.
- Agencies needing embedded product ownership for a client team, with agreed client communication and approval responsibilities.
WHAT WE CAN WORK ON
A scope built around your product.
Ownership with a defined remit
Establish which product decisions I own, which need sponsor approval and how we resolve conflicts. Keep the product goal visible, maintain decision notes and make sure open questions have owners instead of passing repeatedly between stakeholders.
A living product roadmap
Own and update the roadmap within the agreed remit. Connect upcoming work to customer problems and business goals, review new evidence and dependencies, and communicate when a change affects priorities, scope or the expected delivery sequence.
Continuous customer learning
Plan a practical research cadence using interviews, feedback and available product information. Bring findings back into prioritisation, keep untested assumptions visible and identify the next question worth answering rather than collecting research with no decision attached.
A backlog ready for discussion
Translate priorities into clear problems, user stories and acceptance criteria at the level your team needs. Refine upcoming work with design and engineering, answer product questions and resolve ambiguity before it becomes an avoidable delivery blocker.
Planning and release coordination
Run the agreed product planning and review cadence, coordinate dependencies and track decisions that affect delivery. Work with your team on release scope and readiness, ensuring stakeholders understand the intended change and the questions to review after release.
Measurement and stakeholder updates
Agree useful success measures and review the evidence available after a release. Share concise updates covering progress, learning, risks and decisions needed. Use that information to recommend what should continue, change or be removed from the roadmap.
Fractional support provides ongoing product ownership within agreed capacity and decision rights. Your sponsor retains the commercial approvals defined in our working agreement. Engineering, design, specialist research recruitment and implementation are scoped separately where required. For a defined one-off decision, use Product Management Consulting; for a prebuild research and MVP brief, choose Product Discovery & MVP Planning.
FROM CONTEXT TO ACTION
A shared process. Clear responsibilities.
01
Set the working agreement
Define the product remit, capacity, availability, meeting overlap and decision rights. Agree the sponsor, team contacts, working tools and priorities for the initial period.
02
Understand the product and team
Review the product, customers, roadmap, backlog and delivery process. Meet key stakeholders and identify the research gaps, unresolved decisions and blockers that deserve attention first.
03
Own the product rhythm
Keep research, roadmap reviews and backlog refinement moving through an agreed cadence. Support the team during delivery and communicate decisions, changes and outstanding dependencies.
04
Review and adapt the engagement
Regularly assess product progress, new evidence and the usefulness of the working arrangement. Adjust priorities or scope together, and keep documents ready for continuity or handover.
START WITH THE CONTEXT
What should we review first?
Share the information you already have. Gaps and unresolved questions are useful inputs too; we can agree what needs to be investigated before making commitments.
- The product stage, audience and business goals for the next period.
- Your current team and who makes final commercial and product decisions.
- The roadmap, backlog, customer feedback and product information already available.
- Where ownership or delivery coordination is currently breaking down.
- Expected availability, time-zone overlap and the working tools you use.
BEFORE WE START
Good questions. Clear answers.
We agree the remit, access, responsibilities and deliverables before work begins.
A fractional product manager takes an ongoing product role for part of the working week or another agreed capacity. My remit can include customer research, roadmap ownership, prioritisation, backlog refinement and release reviews. The responsibilities, availability and decision rights are set around your product and team.
Consulting is usually scoped around a defined problem, decision and set of outputs. Fractional management continues inside your team's working rhythm: maintaining priorities, answering product questions, reviewing releases and adapting the roadmap as evidence arrives. It is appropriate when you need ownership to continue after the initial plan.
The founder or nominated sponsor stays involved in the business decisions and approvals agreed at the start. I own the defined product responsibilities and coordinate with the people delivering the work. Engineering management, design leadership and wider operations are included only when explicitly agreed and appropriate.
We agree meeting overlap, response expectations and the planning and review cadence before starting. Shared documentation carries priorities and decisions between meetings. I work remotely from India with your existing tools where practical, and flag dependencies or approval needs so they can be handled within the agreed availability.
Yes, development can be discussed as a separate scope, including custom CRM and AI application work. We make the product and implementation responsibilities clear so the available capacity is realistic. You can also retain your own developers, designers or agency while I manage the agreed product remit.
