A trade-account form should not automatically give every applicant access to customer pricing. An Irish wholesaler commissioning Shopify development needs a clear approval process and an accurate relationship between a website user and the customer account. Start with who can see the offer, who can approve access and what the approved buyer is allowed to do.

Define an account request before defining its discount

List the information the sales team needs to assess a trade application. Keep the public form focused and explain the next step. A successful submission should acknowledge a request, not state that the applicant has been approved.

Decide how the applicant relates to an existing business customer. One company may have several buyers or delivery locations. Duplicating the whole customer record for each email address can create inconsistent permissions and pricing later.

PermissionWhat can that user view or order?

Use Shopify company accounts and approved catalogue access

Shopify’s company account request guidance describes a Shopify Forms route for prospective B2B customers. Decide whether requests remain pending for human review and how the company, contacts and locations should be represented.

Review B2B feature availability by plan before selecting the catalogue and pricing arrangement. Shopify B2B is available across multiple plans, but catalogue assignment and some company-specific capabilities differ. A request form or login does not automatically grant approved trade terms.

Check which information an unapproved visitor can retrieve and which company context an approved buyer uses. Use the business’s approved account and pricing rules, with access removed when the responsible owner withdraws it.

Review the whole buyer journey

An approved buyer should understand which account they are using and the offer that applies. Check product listings, search results, cart, checkout and emails for consistent treatment. A correct product-page price does not establish that every later total uses the intended rules.

Include an unapproved visitor, an approved buyer and a user whose access has been withdrawn. If retail and wholesale share one site, explicitly review the boundaries between those experiences.

Keep commercial approval outside automatic assumptions

The business supplies its pricing, payment and credit rules. A developer can implement the approved workflow, but a new login should not imply an approved credit arrangement or commercial commitment. Name the person responsible for those decisions.

If an ERP or account system controls the customer reference, assess the supported transfer and failure handling. A first release may use reviewed administration while a deeper integration is scoped separately.

Pilot changes as well as new accounts

Test an application matched to an existing customer, a second user added to a company and a withdrawn account. Check the public response and staff record. Use fictional or approved sample data and merchant-authorised test arrangements where checkout is involved.

  • Applications remain pending until the agreed review.
  • Users map to the intended customer.
  • Pricing is consistent throughout the journey.
  • Restricted content is not publicly exposed.
  • Changes have a responsible owner.

Do we need a custom Shopify app? Assess suitable supported extensions first. Custom development should address a defined gap, with maintenance and compatibility responsibilities included in the proposal.

Discuss a scoped implementation

Share the customer-account structure, approval stages, pricing groups and existing Shopify tools. We can assess the gap and scope a representative trade-buyer journey for your Irish wholesale business.
