Shopify Store Development for US and Indian Brands: A Launch Checklist

A practical launch plan for brands that need a clear scope, a comfortable mobile storefront and a developer they can work with directly.

A Shopify store can look finished while important buying questions remain unanswered: which variant should I choose, when will it arrive, and what happens if I need to return it? Your development brief should cover those decisions as carefully as the homepage design.

If you are launching an ecommerce brand in the United States or India, this checklist will help you commission the right work. I’m Jagjeet Singh, a developer based in India. I offer Shopify store development and theme customisation for new storefronts, product pages and mobile shopping experiences.

Start with the first buying journey

Before selecting a theme, describe the customer and the first purchase you want the store to support. A small homeware collection needs a different browsing structure from a catalogue with many sizes, colours and categories. Decide whether customers usually arrive at the homepage, a collection or a product through a campaign.

For the first release, prioritise the pages that explain your offer and help someone buy. A clear launch scope gives us something concrete to build and review. Additional campaigns and advanced integrations can follow once their requirements are understood.

Prepare your catalogue before development starts

Product content affects the layout. Long specifications, size charts, multiple images and variant options need space; they cannot be solved by dropping everything into a short description after design approval.

  • Product titles, descriptions and image files, with a named person responsible for approving them.
  • Product count, variants, SKU conventions and the collections customers should browse.
  • Materials, dimensions, care instructions or other information that helps someone choose.
  • Your fulfilment process, delivery information, returns policy and customer support details.

An initial representative set of products lets us test templates properly. Agree separately who prepares and enters the rest of the catalogue.

Build a useful storefront, page by page

The homepage should explain the brand and create useful routes into the catalogue. Collections should help shoppers narrow their choice. Product pages should bring the images, options, description and purchase action together without making visitors search for basic information.

My development scope can include theme configuration, homepage sections, navigation, collection presentation, product templates and mobile layout adjustments. We agree which templates and sections are required before work starts. See when custom Shopify sections are worth commissioning if a standard theme does not fit your product story.

Plan for US and Indian customers deliberately

Your business location, customer market and shipping origin are separate details. Tell me all three. For a US-facing store, we should review the language, units, delivery estimates and support information that your customers will actually see. For an India-facing store, explain your delivery coverage and any payment or cash-on-delivery requirements you intend to offer.

For a cross-border brand, confirm each market’s requirements before implementation. Available payment services and market features need checking against your business and Shopify configuration. Your approved tax, shipping and policy requirements become inputs to the build, rather than assumptions made by the developer.

Keep platform and development costs separate

A quote should identify the work being delivered: template count, custom sections, catalogue setup responsibility, app configuration, review rounds and launch checks. It should also state what you will continue paying after the build.

Shopify subscriptions, paid themes, third-party apps and payment-related charges are separate from development fees. Compare proposals using the same scope. A cheaper quote that leaves product preparation or app setup to you may be a different service. For the budgeting questions, read Shopify website development cost in India.

Review the purchase flow before opening the store

Use a written acceptance checklist. Check product options, sold-out states, cart changes, navigation, mobile buttons and the customer information shown around the purchase. Agree who verifies payment configuration and performs authorised test orders before launch.

Shopify’s official new-store checklist includes store setup, shipping, taxes, payments and test orders. Treat it as a platform reference alongside your project-specific checks. The owner should approve the operational settings and final launch; design approval alone is not enough.

Know what you will be able to edit

Ask for a walkthrough of the finished theme: updating a banner, changing collection content, adding a product and using any custom section. Record which changes you can make through the editor and which require development.

The handover should include the agreed app list, relevant theme changes and support boundaries. If you need regular campaign updates or post-launch fixes, define that work separately so responsibilities remain clear. A store should be practical to operate after the developer has finished the initial build.

Work directly with a developer on your launch

My Shopify and ecommerce work for BPB Online focused on storefront structure and product presentation. You can review selected work in my development portfolio and discuss how your own catalogue should be presented.

To start your project, send your brand or existing website, target markets, approximate product count, design references and preferred launch date. I’ll review the requirements with you so we can agree the development scope, dependencies and next step. Use the launch enquiry button below or send those details on WhatsApp.
