Arc XP to WordPress: Planning News Archives, Media and Subscription Dependencies

Plan an Arc XP to WordPress migration around stories, authors, media, archive URLs and subscription dependencies. Prepare a reviewable publisher project brief.

A news archive is more than a collection of article bodies. Readers reach old stories through search, authorship links, section pages and shared URLs. Editors rely on the context around those stories, and the publication may also depend on separate subscription, identity, advertising or video services.

An Arc XP to WordPress brief should identify those requirements before a bulk content move is priced. I offer Arc XP migration assessment and scoped WordPress implementation for publishers and agency teams. This guide explains the decisions that make the archive, editorial rebuild and connected systems reviewable.

Define the publication and archive coverage

Identify the sites, languages, periods and content states included in the migration. State whether the first release covers the current publication, a historical archive or both. Name the source owner who can confirm authorised access and the editorial owner who can approve the retained content set.

Do not infer complete archive access from a few public stories. Establish which exports or APIs are available, what they include and which assets or administrative states need separate treatment. A useful proposal records the coverage, exclusions and method for identifying missing material. For a large publication, an agreed phased approach may be more reviewable than a single unexplained import.

Map stories and supporting content together

Arc XP documents ANS content structures and reader-facing Content API retrieval. Those concepts inform source assessment, but the destination still needs an explicit map for the information your publication retains. Include headlines, story body structures, authors, taxonomy, dates, media references and related content where applicable.

Choose how that information is represented in WordPress. Some values belong in article fields, others in author or section records, and others need a rendering rule. Keep stable source identifiers for reconciliation. Ask the proposal to explain relationships as well as visible text, especially when the same author or asset appears across many stories.

Make archive URLs a separate acceptance item

Provide an inventory of important story, section, author and media destinations where available. Review historical URL patterns, changed publication structures and links inside old stories. Decide which addresses remain suitable and which need an approved destination or redirect.

A migration should distinguish intentional editorial consolidation from an accidentally missing route. Ask for a review process covering important URLs and a report of unresolved cases. Google’s site migration guidance explains the role of planned URL changes and redirects. The project should manage those changes carefully while recognising that search performance can fluctuate after a platform move.

Scope media beyond the hero image

List image credits, captions, galleries, downloads, embedded players and externally hosted media. Confirm which assets are available and which rights or service relationships allow them to remain in use. A source record containing a media reference is not proof that the destination has an accessible, permitted copy.

Include an older story, a gallery-heavy article and a story with unusual embeds in the pilot. Compare public output and editorial fields, then agree fallbacks or replacements for unsupported material. If video delivery remains with another service, identify the owner, supported player integration and release checks. Keep those decisions visible in the quote and handover.

Give subscriptions and other dependencies their own owners

A story migration should not silently define how a publication’s subscriptions, sign-in, advertising or consent tools will work. Create a register of those dependencies, the responsible teams and the actions a reader must be able to complete. Decide whether each service remains, changes connection or needs a separate implementation.

Identity and restricted content require a controlled, authorised scope. Do not assume that account data, access rights or historical records transfer with public article content. Ask the owners to define acceptance scenarios for the new site, including failure and support routes. Commercial accounts and vendor fees should be separated from the content transformation and WordPress frontend work.

Let editors review the destination before the archive move

Agree representative article templates, sections and archive navigation in staging. Ask editors to create or change a story, assign its supporting content and review its public presentation. Include long headlines, older media and the publication-specific formats the team actually uses.

The pilot should produce a confirmed content map and a list of decisions, not merely a screenshot. After it is accepted, agree reconciliation checks for the full retained set. Define a final publishing window, handling of late changes, release approval and recovery conditions. Name the people reviewing the publication after launch so archive findings and editorial questions have an owner.

Request a publisher migration assessment

Share your publication URL, approximate archive volume, languages and important content formats. Explain available source access and the systems that must stay connected. Include a few public stories showing normal and difficult cases. Keep credentials, subscriber records and unpublished sensitive material out of the initial enquiry.

I can discuss an Arc XP to WordPress assessment and the website implementation it supports. The scope will identify archive coverage, transformation, editorial templates and specialist dependencies before a full release is quoted. No Arc XP partnership or ready-made converter is implied by this independent development service.
