Shopify for Taiwan Exporters: Selling Samples with Clear Shipping Rules

A commissioning checklist for an exporter whose small sample orders need different rules from commercial-volume quotations.

A Taiwan exporter may want buyers to order a standard sample online while commercial quantities still require a quotation. Those journeys can coexist, but the store needs to make their boundaries obvious. Otherwise, a buyer may interpret a sample price or delivery option as the terms for a production order. Start the Shopify brief with the orders your business is prepared to accept.

Decide which items can be purchased directly

List the products available as standard samples and the quantities permitted through checkout. Decide what happens when the buyer exceeds that scope: a clear message, a quotation route or an approved alternative. Product presentation should distinguish a sample from the eventual commercial supply.

Specify whether finishes and variants change the available sample. An option shown in a catalogue does not automatically mean it is stocked for immediate purchase. The business needs to approve the offer, content and availability source that the store will use.

  • Purchasable sample reference.
  • Allowed options and quantity.
  • Information supplied with the sample.
  • When the buyer moves to a quotation enquiry.

Map destinations and samples to Shopify shipping configuration

Shopify’s shipping profile guidance describes grouping products and locations for shipping configuration. Map the approved sample products, fulfilment locations and supported destinations before configuring rates.

A product’s presence in the catalogue does not establish that the business can deliver it to every market. Include an unsupported destination and a mixed cart in the review. Shipping prices, carrier rules and commercial restrictions must be supplied and approved by the merchant.

If quantity limits or quotation alternatives need an app or custom integration, identify the supported approach and its plan dependencies. Keep the sample order and production-order enquiry clearly distinguished.

Collect the information required for fulfilment

Review the address, company details and contact fields with the person who will dispatch the samples. Explain the required country-code format for telephone input. Do not add fields just because they appear on another retailer’s checkout; each field should serve the agreed fulfilment or sales process.

Check the mobile journey from product selection to confirmation. Long technical product names, variant controls and error messages need readable space. Make the distinction between a shipping address and any separate business contact explicit so staff do not have to guess after receiving the order.

Connect payment and dispatch through approved states

Agree which payment arrangements are supported for the merchant and what permits an order to move to dispatch. A submitted order, a pending payment and an authorised fulfilment task are different events. The payment provider and business account owner control eligibility and commercial terms.

If the order enters another tool, keep a traceable reference and define duplicate handling. Repeated notifications should not create several shipments. Failures need a visible owner and next action. These checks belong in the implementation scope alongside the storefront design.

Test the border between samples and quotations

Use approved test arrangements to review a normal sample order, an excessive quantity, an unsupported destination and a mixed-product cart. Confirm what the buyer sees and what the staff record contains. Keep test orders clearly identified and arrange any real payment tests separately with the merchant.

Also test the quote alternative. It should retain the selected product reference and intended quantity. A buyer who has already chosen a sample should not have to start again in an unrelated contact form.

Should all export products be sold online? No. The proposal can retain quotation-only products where specification, pricing or supply terms require review. The store should match the approved commercial model.

Discuss a scoped implementation

Share a sample catalogue, permitted quantities, approved destination rules and your current order-handling tools. We can scope a limited first store and the quotation route before expanding to more products or markets.
