Sitecore to WordPress for Luxembourg Organisations: Plan Multi-Site Media and Language Versions
A migration brief focused on shared assets and language versions across more than one public site.

A Sitecore migration can become more complex when several sites share images, documents or translated content. For a Luxembourg organisation evaluating WordPress, the assessment should identify those relationships before choosing a multi-site architecture. Counting files is not enough: the new system must preserve the intended ownership, versions and destinations people use.
Inventory assets by use and ownership
List the source sites, media records and places where assets are referenced. Distinguish a shared company image from a site-specific document or language version. Record who owns the right to approve and replace each content family.
Sitecore’s Media Library documentation describes media records and versioning. Assess the installed product and version directly; a migration should not assume every organisation uses the same storage or publishing arrangement.
The inventory should make shared relationships visible before the destination duplicates files independently.
Choose the destination architecture deliberately
Separate WordPress sites, a multisite network and shared external assets have different editing and operating consequences. Choose based on site ownership, publishing independence, access and maintenance requirements rather than the number of logos alone.
A shared visual design does not necessarily require shared publishing authority. Conversely, one centrally approved document should not become several uncontrolled copies simply because the sites use separate interfaces. Identify the relationship that must survive.
Map language and media versions
Decide which version each public page should use and how missing counterparts are handled. An English image with embedded text may not be appropriate for another language. Approved language assets need their own mapping rather than an automatic filename substitution.
Preserve source identifiers in the migration record so reviewers can trace a destination asset back to its origin. Record unresolved or withdrawn versions for a business decision instead of silently choosing the first available file.
Protect useful public file addresses
External websites, email campaigns and existing users may link directly to a document or image. Include those addresses in the migration map where relevant, not only page URLs. Decide which should remain valid, receive an appropriate replacement or be deliberately withdrawn.
Review references embedded inside rich text and reusable content. A page may load correctly while one older document link still reaches the retired source system. Search and link checks need to cover those dependencies.
Reconcile a cross-site sample before the bulk transfer
Choose a shared image, a translated document, a revised asset and a file used by only one site. Ask the future editors to replace and publish them through the agreed destination model. Verify the intended public result across the relevant sites.
- Shared ownership remains understandable.
- Language versions map deliberately.
- Existing public destinations are reviewed.
- Embedded references resolve correctly.
- Editors can maintain assets without uncontrolled duplication.
Must WordPress recreate every Sitecore function? No. The business can retain, replace or retire capabilities deliberately. The proposal should record those decisions and their dependencies.

Discuss a scoped implementation
Share the source sites, installed Sitecore version, shared content examples and publishing responsibilities. We can scope a media-and-language mapping sample before estimating the wider WordPress migration.
