UMBRACO TO WORDPRESS / STRUCTURED CONTENT & LAYOUTS
Umbraco to WordPress Migration
Umbraco to WordPress migration assessment for teams moving a website into an editable WordPress setup. Plan document types, block content, media and custom connections before agreeing the Elementor rebuild.

CUSTOM DEVELOPMENT & IMPLEMENTATION
Understand the document types.
Build a practical editor.
An Umbraco website can contain structured documents, composed blocks and custom property editors. The migration reviews how these pieces work together before deciding what becomes a WordPress field, content type or Elementor layout. Source version and installed packages affect the plan.
Document types & properties
Inventory document types, property data and relationships. Define a WordPress destination that keeps structured information useful instead of reducing every item to unstructured page text.
Block and composition mapping
Review representative block content and nested layouts. Agree reusable Elementor sections and the fields editors need to control the equivalent website experience.
Media & file relationships
Map images, documents, captions and references. Check important files and linked assets so the rebuilt pages point to available, correctly described media.
Custom editors & packages
Identify installed packages, custom property editors and application code relevant to the website. Confirm the retained connection or replacement scope for each dependency.
Language, URL & search review
Assess content variants, translated routes and relevant metadata. Plan old-to-new addresses and check internal links and search behaviour against the agreed requirements.
Sample build & editor handover
Test normal and complex content in staging. Review editing with your team, then agree the wider migration, final content move and practical handover notes.
THE DETAILS THAT SHAPE THE PROJECT
Document structure first.
Page assembly second.
The replacement should reflect how the website is maintained. A representative block-rich page is useful evidence for the mapping and editing decisions.
01
Version and package inventory
Record the Umbraco version and packages that affect content editing or output. Confirm the source data mechanism rather than assuming every export contains the same information.
02
Schema is not the finished website
Umbraco export and deployment features serve particular source workflows. A WordPress destination still requires field mapping, layout implementation and verification.
03
Reusable blocks with an owner
Decide which blocks should become global sections, page-level layouts or structured content. Editors need a clear way to update the right item without breaking reuse.
A QUOTE BASED ON YOUR ACTUAL SETUP
Clear inputs.
A reviewable scope.
Content and feature complexity, integrations, languages, source access and review requirements determine the work. Discovery, implementation, licences, hosting and ongoing support are separated in the proposal. A schedule follows the agreed scope and availability of the inputs.
A composed-page sample
Choose one page with the blocks and references your team uses most. It reveals the decisions hidden by a simple page count.
Source and destination ownership
Name the people who can provide source exports and approve the new editing model. Coordinate the final content changes with both teams.
A maintainable replacement
Agree how templates, structured fields and custom features are managed after launch, including licence and update responsibilities.
FROM AN ASSESSMENT TO AN AGREED BUILD
Discover. Implement.
Review the result.
01
Review & define
Review the current setup and agree the project boundary, inputs, owners and acceptance checks.
02
Test a representative sample
Build or map a contained example in staging. Use the findings to confirm the wider implementation.
03
Build & review together
Implement the agreed work in stages. Review important pages and functionality against the brief.
04
Release & hand over
Agree the release checks, recovery responsibilities and practical editing or setup documentation.
WORK WITH THE DEVELOPER DOING THE BUILD
A person to talk to.
Work you can review.
I’m Jagjeet Singh, a WordPress developer based in India. Review my portfolio and discuss the contribution relevant to your project. We agree requirements, communication and review checkpoints around the work you need.
Platform reference: Umbraco: content and schema import/export. The documented source tools inform discovery; the WordPress mapping and rebuild are scoped separately.
BEFORE YOU DECIDE
Good questions.
Clear answers.
Can Umbraco document types become WordPress content types?
Their structure can guide a mapped WordPress model. Fields, relationships, languages and validation need assessment; the destination is agreed around the website’s requirements.
Will nested content and block layouts transfer automatically?
They require mapping and a suitable destination layout. We review representative examples and define the equivalent Elementor sections or structured content before scaling the work.
Can we keep our current URLs?
Where the new site supports the same address structure, it can be retained by agreement. Changed addresses need an approved redirect map and checks for important internal and external destinations.
What happens to custom packages?
They are inventoried and assessed. Their content and behaviour may need a rebuild or a supported external connection; they are not treated as WordPress plugins.
Can editors use Elementor after the migration?
Yes, native editable Elementor layouts can form part of the implementation. Structured content is planned alongside the layout editor so reusable information remains manageable.
What do you need before quoting?
The website, Umbraco version, document types, representative block content and custom dependencies. Access and export availability are discussed during discovery rather than requested through the public form.
PROJECT FIT & IMPLEMENTATION
Map Umbraco document types before rebuilding templates.
Umbraco to WordPress migration should retain the meaning and relationships of your content, not just copy the visible page text.
How are Umbraco document types mapped into WordPress?
Review the fields, relationships and editor controls in representative document types. Decide which become WordPress content types, taxonomies or structured fields, then validate sample records and templates. Record editorial requirements so the target model remains usable after the migration.
Will custom Umbraco code work unchanged in WordPress?
Custom functionality requires an implementation review. List the forms, integrations and business rules that the website depends on, and choose how each will be rebuilt or replaced. Approve the target behaviour and test it in staging; source-platform code is not assumed to run unchanged in WordPress.

HAVE A PROJECT IN MIND?
Let’s make the
next step clear.
Share the public website or a short brief and the work you are considering. I will review the requirements and follow up to discuss a practical scope and approach.
- Umbraco version, website URL and package list
- Document types and examples of block-rich pages
- Language variants, media and custom integrations
- Editor responsibilities and the intended launch window
